Around 5:00PM on the April 7th after 3/4 inch of rain in an hour period fell, a debris flow came down Redwood Creek by the Big Sur Lodge and covered the parking lot and highway with a large amount of mud and debris. About a half dozen cars were stuck, pushed against the trees, up on the fence and one over the bank almost in the river. The Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out and during the event also had 2 medical emergencies requiring an ambulance from town to respond as the Big Sur emergency vehicles were stuck on the south end of the flow. Highway One was closed overnight and reopened midday on the 8th.
